New computers for The George Ward School
04 December 2007
The George Ward School has recently invested in refurbishment of 4 ICT suites and has created a new facility in order to ensure that 21st century technology is available to all students in the school.
The 140 new PC’s within the school have gone into 4 existing rooms and a new room has been created.
This move ensures that technology is at the fingertips of the students when they need it.
The installation has been carried out by Oakford Technology who have been working closely with the school on upgrading all the network, wireless system and servers to ensure that as a Technology College, the facilities in school are state of the art.
The funding for the work has come as a result of Technology College redesignation and ongoing investment to make sure students and teachers at the school have the best equipment to ensure students maximise their learning opportunities.
Future investment is planned for laptop trolleys to be available that will give teachers mobile access to ICT facilities and another lot of interactive whiteboards to go into classrooms.
With the move to the new school planned for 2009 it could be considered wasteful but Nigel Reeves, Business Manager comments:
“We believe that all students at The George Ward School matter and we are working hard to make sure they have the best possible education even if they are not moving to the new school. All current investments will either be transferrable to the new school or will be used as part of our community initiatives.”
Christine Deadman, Chair of Governors said:
“Whilst planning is well underway for the new School, and we are delighted with that, we are fully committed to providing all that our present pupils need to fulfill their potential and these computers are part of that drive.”
